Over the years she filled the house with everything from racoons, birds, snakes and armadillos to bats, a javelina, dogs and countless cats. She created a loving home for her family, along with any stray animal or human. As fate would have it, Gay soon had three boys of her own on her hands who gave her an even bigger run for her money. After graduation from Lamar High School, Gay attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years before leaving school to marry William Barnes Hoff in 1953.
